Glen (The Hog) Hogwood

The Hog’s 80’s Show Friday 10:00pm to 12:00pm – –

I am The Hog and in 1985 I looked like this photo, so it matches the Classic 80’s music I will be playing on my regular Friday night spot on Ridge Radio

Born in Gravesend I spent my early years in Kent, growing up in The Medway Towns and attending Chatham Grammar School until 1983 when I left to start a career in retail banking.

In 1987 I took a role in The City of London, a totally different place to what it is today.

In 1991 I moved to New Zealand where I enjoyed weekends playing Rugby, Cricket and Football (Soccer to The Kiwis), and starting a career in Fund Administration

I decided to make a complete change in about 1994 and decided to earn a living as a Courier Driver. It was during this time that my interest in 80’s Music was properly rekindled, there was a limited amount of local New Zealand music talent and the airwaves were saturated with the standard American offerings and admittedly some interesting Australian sounds.

However, bored with listening to the same old music on my cab radio every day I began to explore the NZ and Australian 80’s scene, as well as revisiting those bands that passed me by during my teenage years back in England. The net result was discovering The Real Groovy record store in Auckland, an accumulation of vinyl purchases and a new found passion for all things 80’s especially Synth-Pop.

After travelling in Australia and Malaysia I returned to England at the back end of the 90’s and carrying on my love affair with 1980’s music. I gig regularly with my best mate Vince, together we have organised two 24 Hour 80’s events raising money for Demelza House Children’s Hospice.

Tune in on Friday evenings when Ridge Radio have given me the chance to share all that the 80’s had to offer, there is nothing better than playing a track that brings back memories for someone or a tune that hasn’t been heard or appreciated for a while.

Sadly my four boys don’t share the same enthusiasm, but I am working on that!

Paul Newton

The Monday Music Mosaic Show 7:00pm to 9:00pm – –

Paul’s show at 7:00pm will feature the very best of rock, pop and indie music from the 60s right through to the current decade, with a focus on 70s, 80s and 90s!

Regular features will include
‘Long Song of the Week’ – a chance to kick back and listen to a classic song in its entirety;
‘Cover of the Week’ – celebrating the greatest cover versions of all time; and
‘Supper Time Theme Time’ – a shameless appropriation of a loving homage to 6Music’s Tea Time Theme Time feature where three songs are played back-to-back and listeners have the find the connection between them!

Paul works as a Corporate Event Manager which allows him to travel the world looking after groups of as little as 10 people all the way up to 400! Travelling has always been a passion of his, so to be able to go to some great places and be paid to do it, is a dream come true, even if its actually harder work than it looks!

His hobbies include football (both playing and watching – Arsenal in particular), movies and, of course, music.
However, a pastime that has taken a lot of Paul’s attention over the last several years is his love of Craft Beer.
This has led to invitations to judge at the ‘World Beer Awards’ on two separate occasions, and the birth of his beer podcast called “Beer Prime”, is available on all major podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Overcast.

The recent Coronavirus pandemic has given Paul a lot of free time, which has partly been spent catching up on TV shows and movies on his Sky planner and also delving deep into the world of Netflix. Suggestions welcomed!

On 12th March 2023 Paul joined Mitch Clark for a 24 hour Comic Relief Event, presenting from 9:00pm on Sunday until 9:00pm on Monday evening.

Several of our DJ’s joined them throughout the 24 hour period, which included interviews and guest appearances.

We would like to thank all who took part and to everyone who donated so generously.

They raised over £1300.00 for Comic Relief.
